About Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar is the capital city of ODISHA (Orissa) located in Khurdha District. Otherwise known as Cathedral City Of India. Bhubaneswar has a cluster of Temples ranging from 7th century AD to 14th century. All the temples have sculptural beauty and hoary antiquity along with historical, spiritual and architectural importance. The beautiful temples with richly architecture surrounded by Khandagiri and Udayagiri hills in the west, Dhauligiri in the south, Sishupalgarh in the east and Nandankanan Biosphere Reserve in the north present a unique history of Orissa right from the hoary past to the politically importance. After independence Bhubaneswar became the capital of Orissa replaced Cuttack. Odia is the official and most widely spoken language in Bhubaneswar as well as whole Odisha, other than Odia many people speak and understand Hindi, Bengali & Telgu also. Bhubaneswar known as the Temple City of India. The history of Bhubaneswar takes behind to 2000years. It is also called as Ekamra Kshetra. Bhubaneswar is the abode of Tribhubaneswar (Lord Lingaraj) and his consort Goddess Bhubaneswari. The History Bhubaneswar was 2000yearls old but morden Bhubaneswar was built after 1948. The famous Kalinga War was fought in Bhubaneswar on the Bank of Daya River on the foot hill of Dhauligiri – The Peace Pagoda.

Bhubaneswar becomes a fast growing city in India. Now It becomes the commercial as well as educational hub. There are thousands of small and big institutes emerged here such as AIIMS, NISER, IIT, IIIT. There are also many prominent private universities like XIMB, KIIT, ICFAI & Sri Sri University. Few Institutions are also dedicated to research like Institute of Physics and Institute of Mathematics. Bhubaneswar is also home of many public universities funded by Orissa govt. These institutions attract thousands of students from every corner of India and playing a role of a catalyst for future growth of Orissa as well as India. Bhubaneswar is also promoted as an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) by the government. There are many IT companies established here. According to a survey on 2012 the growth rate for software exports was 17%. The growth was due to by developing of IT Parks such as Infocity-1, Infocity-2, STPI & JSS STP. More than 300 small and big IT co established in Bhubaneswar. Few multinationals are like Infosys, TCS, Mindspace, Mindfire Solutions, Wipro, IBM, Genpact, Firstsource, Mindtree and Mphasis.

Bhubaneswar is one of the important Tourist Destination in India. It attracts around 15 to 20lacs tourists every year and growing day by day. There are many important tourist destinations are here like Khandagiri Udaigiri Caves, Dhauligiri Peace Pagoda, Shishupalgarh, Nandan Kanan Zoo, Ekamra Haat, State Museum, Lingaraj Temple, Bindusagar lake, Mukteswar Temple, Kedargouri Temple, Raja Rani Temple etc. Apart from these there are more than 500 temples exist in Bhubaneswar. The temples are regarded as the best specimen of Orissan architecture. Their size, massive proportion, the solidity of their construction and elaborate variety of details make them far superior to other temples of Orissa. Numerous specimens of Orissan carvings may be seen in the temples of Bhubaneswar and also in whole Orissa.

Reaching by Road/Bus

Bhubaneswar is connected by NH 5, it connects Eastern & North Eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam to Southern states like Andhra & Tamilnadu. It is the part of Golden Quadrilateral of India. Bhubaneswar inter-state bus terminal is located at Baramunda, 6 km from the Bhubaneswar city. There are many Volvo/Ac/Non A/c busses available from Kolkata, Ranchi, Vizag, Hyderabad, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Raipur, Digha, Talcher (NTPC) etc.

Reaching by Train

Bhubaneswar is well connected by rail to all the major cities of Norther as well as Western part of India.

Reaching by Air

Biju Patnaik Airport situated 3kms from the city centre It is well connected to Delhi, Varanasi, Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. There are many direct flights available from these places. On 2012 this airport has planned to handle International operations. On March 2013 there is a new terminal inaugurated by Orissa Chief Minister Shri Naveen Pattanaik. Capacity of new terminal is 30million passengers per year.
